kind of a funny story 2010

It’s Kind Of A Funny Story is not a full blown comedy as some might think. It actually focuses on problems many people (young and old) face everday – a feeling of not living up to expectations, fearing that you arent good enough or what you or someone else believes you are “supposed” to do in life which can lead to suicidal thoughts.

Craig Gilner (Keir Gilchrist) is a 16 year old teenager who lives a pressure induced, stressful life, or so he feels at the beginning of the movie. He is being stressed out by his dad, school, can’t get the girl of his dreams, has to apply to a prestigious summer school in order to become “a leader of tomorrow” – yeap, sounds like many pressures teenagers would go through. All this stress causes poor little craig to violently vomit anytime he has to think about doing 4 hours of homework a night, or reading newspapers daily to analyze the stock market. At first he wants to jump off the Brooklyn bridge, but decides to check himself into a nearby clinic to relieve his suicidal impulses.

At first the doctor is hesitant to admit him, but with a little “suicide” talk, the doctor finally admits him. As expected, the facility is overflowing with loonies – both zoned out zombies and off the wall nut jobs. His real challenge becomes surviving inside the clinic. He meets a somewhat normal buddy (Zack Galafinakis) who was initially dressed as a doctor in the waiting room, but then was really as a patient… The humor runs deep, focusing on the necessity of laughter. Craig nearly starts to laugh at a fellow patient but quickly bites his tongue – he says that he shouldnt be laughing at these people – but maybe, sometime, its ok, because we’re enjoing life.

Craig needs to survive the clinic for 5 days. In his 5 days, he experiences something new everyday – whether it is learning to cope with his stress, or flirting with the quirky girl. Overall this was a great movie in which many people can relate to. Everyone has problems – some people bottle it up inside them till it bubbles to the top and explodes – our friend Craig decided to simmer his problems down

It’s Kind Of A Funny Story comes to theaters on October 8

flintstones google1 300x125 Yabba Dabba Google!

Today is a special day in the cartoon world – It’s the 50th anniversary of the first airing of “The Flinstones.” The Flintstones ran from September 30, 1960 to April 1, 1966 on ABC.

Google has decided to pay tribute to the fellow Bedrock residents with a doodle on their home page in order to thank them for thinking outside the box – which is exactly what they did. A world virtually free of emissions, no greenhouse gases, no “potential” hole in the ozone layer – a great, green utopian place to live. Sure it wouldnt be ideal to drive to work using your feet, but how cool would it be to have your own pet dinosaur and a saber-tooth tiger…

Tthe Flinstones have been an inspiration to many other cartoons and led the way to many new creative ideas. The best rememberance of the Flinstones, for me, would have to be when homer sang his own rendition of the theme song.. Classic.

Congrats to ABC, and all the writers, artists, and everyone else that dedicated time and effort into this cartoon…. Now I need to wait 27 more years before I can write about 50th anniversary of the simpsons…

This was pretty difficult to find on youtube – sorry for the bad quality – however its a great song icon smile Yabba Dabba Google!

Twitter 300x241 ..must remain twitter less

Twitter has over 100 million accounts and more than 300,000 people join twitter everyday… Its a no-brainer that any new blog/website that wants maximum exposure should hop on the bandwagon and join twitter, right? Well, I don’t think so

This blog is extemely new and I am still in the process of optimizing everything. I have been thinking about how to attract traffic and keep traffic coming back on a regular basis – which is not an easy task – for anyone.

Last week, on the digital point forums, I came across a member who has over 1,000 twitter followers and graciously offered to tweet about anything you sent him (which is greatly appreciated). So, since I am trying to popularize my .co blog, I jumped on the offer and used google analytics to track traffic. I also verfied his tweet and sure enough the sentence I asked him to tweet was there.

I figured that since so many people have twitter I would get some traffic directed to my site -
especially since he has over 1,000 followers – but not quite. I wasn’t able to attract even 5% (about 50 people) with the tweet. This is obviously not something that I wanted – but that was the reality of it.

Then I put myself in the other peoples’ shoes < -- If I were following this guy on twitter, and he started posting links to people's blogs in his twitter account, I would not click them either. I dont know if its spam, malware, shitty pop ups, or what. I also dont know if someone got into his account and started tweeting crap - I finally understood why I had no impact on traffic (well, thats what I assume).

I started researching the average twitter user and came acrosss some very interesting facts. Yes there are over 100 million accounts and yes more than 300,000 people create a new account everyday. But that does not mean that these accounts are used daily or ever after they are created. Here are some interesting facts I came across:

  • 85.3% of all Twitter users post less than one update/day
  • 21% of users have never posted a Tweet
  • 93.6% of users have less than 100 followers, while 92.4% follow less than 100 people
  • 5% of Twitter users account for 75% of all activity

These are very surprising twitter facts which all make sense now. YES, it is good to promote your blog but chances are that twitter will be a hard method to use, especially if you are new. Now, if you are a celebrity (#1 tweeter, ashton) or a twitter-whore (britney spears), then I’m sure you will have much more success than me. However, I will keep this path clear and use a different method to *hopefully* gain more blog exposure elsewhere. Farewell you time consuming, tween infested, 135 max character BASTARD!

caution Biggest Blog Mistakes to Avoid

According to Blog Pulse, there are 147,027,076 identified blogs worldwide – 56,372 NEW blogs and 1,020,810 blogs indexed in the last 24 hours. That’s ALOT of people blogging alot of content.

So what is everyone writing about? How much quality does their blog contain? Simply put, I don’t know. What I do know is that everyone want’s a content rich successful blog. Who doesn’t?

Just google “blog tips” or “blog guide” and there are over 557 MILLION hits – now on the contrary google “blog mistakes” and your results will be dismal. I found some great articles mentioned in the links below, but nearly all of them are outdated – I have deciced to create a new, updated list. Instead of adding to the 550 million + results, I would like to present some simple steps every blogger should avoid…

It is extremely important to get your own hosting and domain name. This will separate you from many people and make your blog fully customizable. There is a significant difference in having your own blog on versus If you use your blog will always be shown as a subdomain as opposed to have your own url extension.

This is a myth that many people believe it. If I blog about X, people will read it NO this is not true – you actually need to promote your blog to get readers – and informative, constructive posts to keep these readers coming back. A good way to promote your blog is to network. There are tons of various networking methods that will provide excellent exposure to your blog. Another tip is to have a contest in order to promote you blog – I will be having my first contest in a month or so and plan on creating t-shirts with my logo and site printed. You can also submit your articles to publishing sites in order to gain more exposure

Having bad or no search enigine optimization means that your site will not be ranked by google. Google is the leading search engine and has excellent algorithms that will crawl to your site – USE them. If you don’t know about SEO optimization I suggest reading this. I also found another article about google backlink secrets.

I cannot stress the importance of linking your articles more. This is an important concept which helps your build backlinks. The more you sites that link to you, and vice versa, the more exposure you get! So if you come across an article that you found interesting and want to put your own spin to it, LINK it! I am linking this article to 3 sources that I found, and would appreciate it if those 3 webmasters would link back icon smile Biggest Blog Mistakes to Avoid

If your blog focuses on a specific topic, say for example, zombies taking over the world – You’d find one reader right here – you should join a forum that has topics related to your blog. You should also find other blogs and comment on them – dont spam with crap – leave detailed comments that actually make sense…. not say: nice, or sweet… Make sure to always leave your name, email, and website since it will be shown to anyone else reading the same blog as you.

These are, what I feel, some of the biggest mistakes a blogger can make – I will keep the list growing as I get more readers and will possibly make a part 2. Feel free to comment, link, buzz, etc this article. I appreciate your input!

Ryan Reynolds Buried

Last night, my girlfriend surprised me with tickets to an exclusive screening of BURIED – which comes out on October 8th. Being huge horror/suspense fans we decided to go. The first 2-3 minutes leave you in complete darkness, as truck driver Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) wakes up and instantly notices something is wrong. hes gagged and tied – worse yet, he realizes he’s trapped somewhere… He quickly gets out a zippo and realizes he’s trapped inside a coffin. Gasping for air and freaking out he desperately tries breaking through the coffin to get out – no chance. While he’s doing this, I hear many people in audience adding to his misery. This movie makes you feel as if you too are trapped inside this hellish box…

The only light available is his zippo and a flashlight. His only source of communication is a shotty cell phone in a middle eastern language… There is not a dull moment in the entire 90+ minute movie and Reynolds does an excellent job acting.

This movie lets the audience FEEL the mental pain and torment that Conroy is experiencing. You become with him. Despite his shitty situation, Conroy still has some clever/witty remarks when making his phone calls…

Overall, I feel that this movie truly is groundbreaking and is much different than anything I have seen lately. It’s an original idea with a concrete concept that works.

I strongly suggest you see this movie when it come out

I also want to thank gofobo for the free tickets!
