The vintage toy & collectible market is now hotter than ever. It is a multi-million dollar aftermarket industry that does not seem to be slowing down. Hundreds of different toys, such as Hot Wheels Redlines, GI Joe figures, and train sets were played by children over 40 years ago. Today all of these children are now grown up and want to rekindle their youth. Sadly most toys, especially toys for boys, were brutally destroyed and will never see the light of day. However for those who meticulously kept their toys in mint condition can sell their toys today for a hefty premium price.

One particular individual is one of the biggest players in the vintage toys and collectibles market. Each week I am blown away by the variety and amount of items he sells. If you are a vintage toy collector, you already know EXACTLY who I am referring to: Joel aka FxToys!. Here are FXToys! Auctions

Every single week, FxToys has hundreds of different collectible items. Two things always blow my mind. 1 – The variety and condition of these highly collectible, rare sought after toys. 2 – The prices. Yes – The prices. Joel has items that I have never seen before – He has redline colors that I only dreamed of. If there is something rare and unique you are seeking, Joel is the man to contact.

I collect redlines – Mighty Mavericks to be precise and I have purchased a handful of mavericks from Joel. Even with hundreds of items ending each week, Joel still manages to find time to answer any question he gets – with an extremely fast response time. Once I sent a question at Midnight and already had an answer the next morning. He also has a return policy!

I had the priviledge of talking to Joel on the phone and he agreed to an interview. He is a great guy and I thank him for taking time out of his busy day to talk to me. PS – While we were talking, he was sorting through an awesome redline collection he just purchased! My questions are in bold and the replies are in italics.

What is your name and ebay id?
Joel Magee – ebay ID: fxtoys!
Do you have a website? No, I only sell through ebay

How did you ever get started in this hobby? I started back in the late 80′s and started buying lunchboxes from TV shows that I watched as a child. I started collecting and then quickly realized that it could be turned into a business.

What types of items do you sell? Which items sell best? I sell anything toy related from 1960′s and older. Hot wheels redlines and television show toys sell the best.

What is the most an item you owned sold for? In the late 1980s, I sold a vintage 1950′s tin rocket for $14,000.

Do you think there are treasure still yet to be found? Absolutely! Everything is just waiting to be found

What is your outlook for 2011? Do you think collectibles will become rarer and bring in more money? The market will shift up and down during the year but overall 2011 should be a solid year

Do you have a personal collection? What is your holy grail? I collect disneyland posters from the park. They are made exclusively for disneyland and not sold to the general public. They are about 5 feet tall by 3 feet wide. My holy grail is my flying saucers poster. It is worth well over $10,000.

How many items do you sell a week? 500

Where in the world do you find all these items? You have the cream of the crop when it comes to collectibles We have many contacts all over the country. Many people contact us through ebay. We also buy many collections and also do consigments once in a while. People will send us their collections to sell without us even paying upfront because of the well known repuation we have with our customers.

Just about every collector knows FxToys! especially when it comes to rare hard to find items. You are talked about in many forums and have handled more collectibles than people will in their lifetime. How does it feel to be a collectible guru? Are you a member on any specific forums? That is an honor. We have strived to be the very best at what we have been doing for the past 20 years and I feel like our reputation brings people back because they trust us and we always strive for 100% customer satisfaction.

Is there anything you regret not purchasing in the past? Boy – this happens all the time. It never ends.

What is the funniest strangest question someone has asked you? Probably the stupiest question, that happens all the time, is when someone asks me how big or long an item is when it is written in the title and description!

That is the interview and I hope you all enjoyed reading it. Joel is a great guy and has amazing items for sale. He has stuff I will NEVER see in my lifetime. So check out his auctions – FxToys! and if there is something unique he has for sale – make sure to snag it! Joel also pays finders fees to people who help him find collections!

Let me begin by saying that I do NOT like rap or hip hop – however this is something that everyone MUST see. Last week on Tosh.O, we seen a video of a guy dancing in the street and getting hit by a ice cream truck. That shit was hilarious. It is an older video, but Tosh decided to give this unlucky SOB a web redemption.

Tosh.O Web Redemption

This is BY FAR the funniest and best web redemption…EVER! If you dont like the beat you will like the lyrics. If you dont like the lyrics you will like the video. This video has it all – Bling, Chicks, and fancy cars – except the bling is the black guys grill – the chicks are 8 year old kids, and the fancy cars is a pimped out ice cream truck – yeap like I said this video has it all.

Not to mention that Optimo 55 is going to get a shit load of exposure for this and will probably do a song with Lil Wayne in a few months. SO congrats optimo 55 – you got your ass handed to you by an ice cream truck and now you are famous…

Question Mark

Have you ever had a day where you are just sitting in front of a computer screen and words just cant seem to translate themselves from electrical pulses to letters on a keyboard?

What To Blog About

This is EXACTLY one of those days. I am sitting here not knowing what to write about. This is a post written about nothing that does not convey anything – so in reality is writing about nothing actually writing about something?

Lets try to analyze. If I did not write anything then there would be no way anyone can read this. However I am writing something about nothing so technically this is a post about something.

Confused yet? Good! When you cant find something to post – then I suggest you create a post about it! It is exactly what I did and is a good brainstorming session.

So what did you write about when nothing came to mind? How do you cope with a “blank slate” when blogging?

There are well over 600,000 registered .CO domains to date and at $30 a pop, this places a value of $18 million spent on .CO domains. Not to mention .CO just came out about a year ago. With all this money being “invested” and domains being registered, there is obviously going to be some buzz about this newest domain extension. As always, when there is a buzz – it seems that everyone automatically becomes an expert and KNOWS what will happen. Well to be frank, no one knows what the future of .CO holds – the only thing that holds valid is facts. Without concrete facts, everything else is purely speculation. Everyone also has opinoins – which we all know are like assholes – everyone’s got one.

Some of the biggest news for .CO domains has happened in the past – the biggest being GoDaddy announcing they will air a .CO focused superbowl commercial. Now – will this benefit .CO domains, or will this just benefit Bob Parsons? I’m thinking 80% Bob and 20% .CO domains. Bob is obviously going to benefit from the hand regs – and people might benefit by selling good keyworded domains they own. Airing a commercial does create buzz – espeically if it is done right – and we all know that godaddy likes to use women as their main marketing strategy. Godaddy is actively seeking a .CO spokesperson – aka a pretty face and nice bust. Let’s just hope they actually succeed in this aspect since I am extremely sick of looking at Danica Patrick and I think that Jillian Michaels can drop kick the shit out of me – which is not something I am “in to.”

So there is no doubt about it – airing a .CO commercial during the superbowl WILL increase exposure to this extension – and will it actually be good in the long run? I don’t know – and neither do you. I’m sure that sales will increase for godaddy but what about the rest of us?

Sedo has also just announced that they are also running a special .CO domain auction that takes place on Feb 10 and runs till the 17th. This should be a great indication as to how the public accepted (or disapproved) the commercial and if godaddy did infact have an impact. Many .CO domains have been steadily selling and generating some great cash. Auctions.CO sold for $15K and other notable sales can be found here.

The next .CO buzz is the fact that Overstock has officially announced that they will be using o.co as first written on TheDomains.

There are also MANY discussions online. As I mentioned before there is a lot of .CO buzz right now – Just about every big domainer is blogging about it, and forums have dedicated discussions on this topic. Namepros has some of my favorite .CO disuccions. One is the offical .CO Discussion This thread is over 100 pages long and is growing daily. The other discussion talks about how .CO domains will not do well.

So take it for what it is – Do I personally think that .CO domains are a bubble? NO – The same can be said about those who thought the internet was a bubble, or google, or facebook – were these bubbles? Yes they were bubbles as an idea and during the initial phases – what have they become now? You obviously dont need me to answer that. I dont think .CO domains will ever sell for as much a .COM but I do know it sure as hell know that it is not going anywhere.
